Safe Return Program - NT

The Northern Territory Safe Return program gives carers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or any other form of dementia, peace of mind if the person in their care wanders.

The Safe Return program is run in conjunction with NT Police in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine. It allows carers to start a search for a person who has dementia and who has wandered from home.

How does NT Safe Return work?

NT Safe Return involves the person with dementia wearing a personalised, numbered bracelet. This service operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Carers can start a search for a person who has dementia and who has wandered from home by contacing the NT Police on their 24 hour hotline and quoting the number on the back of the Safe Return bracelet. The ID number links the missing person to the NT Police database, which contains information that assists police to find the person.  Information on the database includes a recent photo, written physical description and the places where the person may frequent.

Who is eligible to participate?

Anyone who has dementia, and is at risk of becoming lost.

What costs are involved?

Bracelets are $35 each including initial registration.
